Belated Birthday Book Haul

Almost three weeks ago, on the 5th of June it was my birthday (YAY I'VE SURVIVED SEVENTEEN YEARS!!!!!!!) and I got a fair few books as presents. I bought myself some book related things too and I got some other random stuff. So I thought that I would do a birthday book haul slash all my other presents.

First things first the books that I got for my birthday …….

West End Girls, by Jenny Colgan. Allegedly the streets of London are paved with gold so it is the perfect place for complete opposite twin sisters Lizzie and Penny Berry to move to in order to get noticed. Randomly the two discover that they have a wealthy grandmother who lives in the centre of Chelsea who is currently staying in hospital. However during their time flat-sitting the two discover that the West End lads are nothing like Hugh Grant.

Hollow City, by Ransom Riggs. Beginning immediately after the first book, Jacob and his friends are forced to travel to London in the middle of the war in order to save Miss Peregrine. There they encounter new  allies, a menagerie of peculiar and also some new enemies.

Horns, by Joe Hill. The last year Ignatius Perrish has spent the year in a purgatory of sorts after the death of his beloved Merrin Williams. Merrin was raped and murdered in the middle of the woods and everyone in his small town believes that Ig is to blame. Almost a year later, Ig wakes up to discover that he has horns sprouting out of the top of his head. These horns provide Ig with a terrible power which might finally allow him to discover who killed Merrin and destroyed his wife.

Attachments, by Rainbow Rowell. It’s 1990 and the internet is a fairly recent thing. Within a printing company Lincoln O’Neill has been employed to monitor people’s emails to ensure that they aren’t doing anything inappropriate. Everyone in the News Room knows that this was happening but no one actually knew who this guy was. Lincoln suddenly comes across the emails between Beth Fremont and Jennifer Scribner-Snyder and whilst he reads their enjoyable conversation he discovers that he might be falling in love with one of them. But is there such a thing as love before sight?

The Night Circus, by Erin Mogenstern. The circus will arrive with no warning and only open at night. But the Circus is really a battle ground between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, and only one of them will be triumphant. However, the two of them have fallen headfirst into a deep and magical love that caused the room to heat up with they come in contact with each other. But their love does not matter for their fate has been set out before them and only one of them can complete it.

Anna and the French Kiss, by Stephanie Perkins. Anna is supposed to be spending her senior year in Atlanta with a great job, a loyal best friend and the possibility of a crush becoming something more. However that all changes when she is shipped off to a boarding school in Paris and she is far from thrilled; until Etienne St. Clair comes into her life. But he has everything that he could possibly want … including an equally perfect girlfriend. But they do live in the City of Light so perhaps something could come true. So there probably is the option that the year could end with a long-awaited French Kiss.

All My Friends Are Superheroes - Andrew Kaufman. All Tom’s friends are superheroes; in fact he even married one called the Perfectionist. But at their wedding, the Perfectionist is hypnotised by her ex-boyfriend Hypno to believe that Tom has abandoned her. In her grief she moves to Vancouver, never knowing that Tom is beside her and he has until the plane touches down to convince her that Tom is visible before he loses her forever.

All I Know Now - Carrie Hope Fletcher. This is a guide to survive the ‘teenage’ which can be a dangerous and bumpy road meaning that even the best people will need help at some point. Whether it is about love, friendship, school or the future; this book will help no matter what.

I was given some money too so I bought myself a few books, when I say a few I mean 9 (soon to be 12!)

The Elite, The One and The Heir, all by Kiera Cass. When a Prince comes off age in the land of Illea, thirty five girls are selected from around the country to take part in the selection. A chance to escape their birth lives and to become the Princess of the land. All they have to do is get Prince Maxon to fall in love with them. However, this is a nightmare for America Singer as she has to leave her secret love Aspen as well as her home in order to compete for a crown that she doesn’t actually want. Oh and she has to live in a palace that is constantly under threat from violent rebel attacks. But it seems that Maxon might be able to change her mind; perhaps this competition might begin to mean more?

Hush, Hush; Crescendo and Silence, all by Becca Fitzpatrick.  Romance was never a part of Nora Grey’s plan. She wasn’t particularly pretty so she couldn’t attract boys in school and to be honest she wasn’t really bothered. That is until she meets Patch. His easy smile and eyes that seem to stare at her very soul draw her closer to Patch; even though her brain is telling her not to. However after a series of terrifying events, Nora doesn’t know who to trust. Patch seems to be where ever he is and knows more about her friends that even she. She has no idea whether to run to his arms or hide in the corner. Suddenly Nora finds herself in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortals and those who have fallen. But when she has to choose sides, the wrong choice could cost Nora her life!

Atlantis Gene, Atlantis World, Atlantis Plague, all by A.G. Riddle. High-tech artefacts are found in an area that was believed to be from ancient Atlantis. This discovery causes one global organisation to violently accelerate the next step in human evolution.

Cress, by Marissa Meyer. Cinder and Captain Thorne are still on the run from the law; but Scarlet and Wolf are now in tow. The quartet now have a plan; overthrow Queen Levana and her bloody thirsty army. They have one person who can help them is Cress, an excellent hacker who has spent her life living on a satellite. Cinder needs her help, as does Levana; each to find the other. Cress, Scarlet and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world; but they may be the only hope that the world has.

Dorothy Must Die, by Danielle Paige. Amy Gumm is a normal teenage girl; that is until a tornado swept her up and transported her to Oz. But Oz is different to what she knows from the books and films. Good Witches can’t be trusted, Wicked Witches might actually be the good guys, and winged monkeys can be executed if they attempt to rebel. The yellow brick road is still there – but it’s crumbling away. Dorothy is a tyrannical leader and Amy is who Oz needs to go back to normal.

Half Bad, by Sally Green. Nathan has lived in a cage for sixteen years: beaten, shackled, trained to kill. In modern day England, witches live amongst humans but Nathan is an abomination to his people. He is the illegitimate son of Marcus; the most powerful and cruellest witch in the world. Before his 17th birthday, Nathan must escape the cage and received three gifts from his father or he will die.

I also bought myself a Daenerys Targaryen Pop Funko figure and four Hobbit bookmarks.

So I have a bit of an addiction which is not good at all! But what am I going to do about it; there are worse things to be addicted to; right! So that was my belated birthday book haul.
